Reference: Audio settings - Live

Live

Device

Select an audio input from this drop-down list. Their exact names depend on the hardware installed in your computer, but you should see at least a microphone, and a line-in device.
Computers running Windows XP will usually display a stereo mixer device. If you select it, then BS-Server will broadcast any audio currently playing with your favorite player. This feature is not available in Windows Vista until you enable it. Follow these steps to enable the stereo mixer device in Windows Vista.
Some computers running Windows Vista may not display any input device until you actually plug the cable from your device into the corresponding jack. If the Live Device drop-down list is empty after starting BS-Server: exit the program, plug your device cable and restart the program.

Input level slider

Use it to adjust the volume of the input device. For best audio quality, the VU-Meters should peak near 100%. Warning: if the level tops constantly at 100%, then acoustic distortion will occur.
If you selected the stereo mixer device (see above) then the input signal strength depends on the output volume of the audio source.
Example - broadcasting the output of Windows Media Player:
  • Load a playlist in WMP and start playing;
  • Set the playback volume of WMP at 50%;
  • Open Windows sound volume control pannel and set the Wave volume at 100%, and the global sound volume at 50%;
  • Finally, set BS-Server input level at roughly 50%. Check the VU-Meters and carefully fine-tune the Input level slider.
