Internet Broadcasting Server http://www.broadcasting-software.com/ |
Reference: FTP connection
Host Enter the name of your FTP server. Example: ftp.myhost.com
Directory Enter the path of the directory which will contain your stream. BS-Server will create this directory if it does not exist. This directory should be located in the "public" part of the FTP file system. In other words, it must be accessible by the web server. Examples: /public_html/radio or /httpdocs/radio. =>If you need more information about the FTP directory, read this FAQ topic.
User Enter the FTP user name required to login to your FTP account.
Password Enter the FTP password required to login to your FTP account.
Auto retry on error If the FTP connection fails for any reason, the program will try to reconnect 3 times by default, and finally stop. Check this box to keep trying after the 3rd failure until the connection is established.
Retry delay Tells how long the program should wait before the next connection attempt, if Auto retry on error is checked.
Use passive mode Should be checked for most FTP sites.
Private broadcast settingsBS-Server broadcasts are public by default, meaning that anybody can receive them with the free BS-Tuner program. However, you may want to restrict your broadcast to some listeners, either your friends and family, or paying subscribers. This is achieved through data stream encryption, and/or directory password protection.
Key Enter a secret key in this field to enable data stream encryption. The key should be hard to guess, and not too short. Send the key to your audience, and instruct them to paste it in the "Security" Tab of BS-Tuner. People who do not know the key won't be able to receive your broadcast. How to copy the key to the Clipboard: Select the key and press Ctrl-C. You may now paste it into your email program or any other Windows application. Generate button Click this button to generate a random key. Clear Key button Click this button to erase the Key. Your broadcast will be available to everyone. about Directory password protection: since BS-Tuner uses standard HTTP to fetch the data stream from the server, you can further control access to your broadcast by setting user-based passwords with htaccess files. How to do this is beyond the scope of this document. Query your favourite search engine for "htaccess password" to find a tutorial. To receive your broadcast, listeners will have to enter their user-name and password in the "Security" Tab of BS-Tuner.
Connection statusOnLine indicator Tells if the FTP connection is active;
Link indicator Signals that the FTP connection is too slow. The connection speed should stay within 5% of the nominal bandwidth of your broadcast. A drop beyond 5% would be due to a faulty internet connection, or a problem with your FTP server. If the Link indicator is lit for more than 30 seconds, the listeners will probably lose connection and see the "Network congestion - Rebuffering" message.
KBytes Sent counter Tells how many kilobytes have been uploaded to the server since the broadcast was started.
Transmission Speed indicator Shows the average upload speed over the FTP connection. The value should be within 5% of the nominal bandwidth of your broadcast. A drop beyond 5% would be due to a faulty internet connection, or a problem with your FTP server. The red Link indicator is turned on in such circumstances.
Ready indicator Tells that BS-Server has reached a stable data streaming state. Your audience will be able to listen to your broadcast when:
